 We had an awesome turnout Thursday night! I don’t think Alexander Robinson has seen that many Ultimate players on it’s fields....ever! Weather co-operated, discs were flying, and the new players were simply amazing!
A reminder that this Sunday, April 19th we practice/play at the Thomas Haney SS field (close to lacrosse box) from 5:30-8:00PM. A couple of key things:
If you haven’t registered yet, please arrive by 5:30PM to get it out of the way.
Format will be similar to last night – drills and chatting to make sure everyone is comfortable with the game....scrimmage to get the heart pumpin’.
Drink Cooler will be making an appearance....bring a loonie for pop and a twoonie for a beer.
We will be going back to Red Robin Restaurant for some food right after – join us!

Saturday, March 28th at Red Robin Restaurant in Maple Ridge (corner of 227th and Lougheed) from 12:00PM to 4:00PM.

 Hi folks! Anyone missin’ our game yet? This string of sunny days just makes me want to play some Ulti!
Our Year End Party will be on Saturday, October 25th.
Location: Thornhill Disc Golf Course
Set-Up of the Day:
8:00AM-12:00PM We are going to do some course maintenance (we do this each year) that includes fixing up tee boxes, putting in new signs, trimming branches, tidying up the grounds……
12:00PM Free Food and Beer! Pizza, munchies, cold beer, coolers……
1:00PM-4:00PM Disc Golf Tournament! You don’t have to know the rules, own an official golf disc, nor even be good! Prizes and laughs abound…..
If you have never been to this course, you will be very impressed! Maple Ridge Ultimate League has kinda taken it on as it’s own and constructed bridges, signs, numbered holes, and done some great course maintenance in the past. Come check it out!
Even if you were unable to come out much, and you are thinking “man, I was on vacation a lot in the summer and couldn’t play…I’ll probably skip the party….” Forget it! Everyone is invited! And if you have a friend you are looking to turn into a potential player next year, bring em out!

Don't forget that this weekend will be playing our semifinal games. In one semifinal the One Disc Wonders will face Perpetually Hammered and in the other Seventeen Inch Discs will face Tough Mother Huckers. The ultimate season is winding down, so let's try and all make it out for some kick ass ulti. We have to have somebody dethrown last years champs the Seven Deadly Spins.

 An Ultimate Showdown at Thomas Haney last night as the Tough Mother Huckers sent their star player (Ryan Pedersen) to Ottawa with an 11-10 win over the first place One Disc Wonders! 17 Inch Discs slipped past the always competitve Perpetually Hammered 11-7.
MVPs this week included Ryan MacDonald, Chris Goody, Alisa, and Emma!
Most Spirited Stars were Melissa Protor, Sherry, Phil, and Erin!!!
2 more weeks of round robin play heading into the semi final matches on Sunday August 3rd! Final Championship games on Sunday August 10th!!!

Tough Mother Huckers beat up on Perpetually Hammered 13-3 while One Disc Wonders won on a universal point 14-13.
Last 3 weeks of round robin play begin this Sunday, July 13th. Semi Finals will go on August 3rd and the Championship Games on August 10th!
If you are still interested in playing in the Kamloops tournament on August 16/17th, there are a few spots left. Bring $75 to Thursday practice or Sunday games.

Well we had a great turnout this Sunday and everyone laughed in the face of the thunder and lightning storm rolling our way. Heavy gusts of wind led to some interesting points, but everyone was lovin' it, and the cooler of drinks made its appearance. 32 brave Maple Ridge players went into Thornhill last Saturday and turned the small town forest into a big time disc golf course! Bridges were built, tee boxes perfected, netting re-hung, tonnels numbered, and friendship rekindled! (ahhh, how nice) Thanks to everyone who helped out!! If you haven't had a chance to play the course yet, take advantage of one of the last great free events in the Lower Mainland!

 Well Maple Ridge Ultimate is officially the best ultimate League ever. On Sunday, 43 ultimate players braved the elements in what can only be described as ridiculous weather. As the rain came down in droves, so did the pulls, while League games went ahead full bore, capped with epic points and sweet layout slides. See you Thursdays and Sundays for practice and league games, respectively.

 The Hat Tournament was a MASSIVE success thanks to the contributions of many, and the attitude of everyone! Over 50 Cultimate players gathered - It was pouring when we set up....rained all day...but I don’t think we even noticed! Lots of Ultimate, Cups, skills challenges, tons of food, enough beer to flood the Fraser, music, prizes, and great friends highlighted the day. I don’t think anyone has the kind of Spirit we do in Maple Ridge!
I appreciated the thank you from everyone, but it really should go towards all of you. To those who got there early to help set up in the rain (and somehow kept your smiles on!)....to Craig and Wayne who ran a fantastic skill competition that kept us all entertained all day...to Dar, Drew, Ryan for setting up and running Cups....to Evan F for the music (even if it arrived around noon)....to Ryan Mc for running all the registration....to Ann and Emma for buying and giving out prizes and awards (and choppin’ those damn onions!)....to Byron and Ben for BBQing...to Phil for bring those kick ass gazebos! (we need to keep him just for those tents!)....and to a ton of others who helped make the day go smoothly!
Congrats to Pulling For Pleasure for being the Tournament Champ!!!

 The countdown has started, the torch is getting ready to be lit for the Maple Ridge Ultimate Annual extravaganza Tournement Weekend!!!!! If you don't know about, it's June 16th and it will loosen your fillings; it will rock your socks off; it will curl your toes! By the end we can promise you will be a stronger person (and that's a guarantee!) Advertising and Promotion
A number of us are meeting this Sunday (February 25th) at 5:00PM at Red Robin for a “Blanket Maple Ridge With Ultimate Posters” party! Actually, it is just an excuse to have a beer together and hand out a few posters to put up around town, but giving the meeting an official title generates more interest……come on out!
Brand New Discs!
We’ll have a shipment of 40 discs coming in a few weeks – all virgin plastic! I bought them for $10 and I’ll sell them for $10! The BCDSS is an amazing organization that promotes Ultimate in the province and gives leagues discs at a great price. Check out their site at http://www.bcdss.bc.ca
Clinics and Practices
As we do every year, our clinics will “start from scratch” – focusing on throws, catches, marking, and cutting. It is a great progression for the beginners as well as useful practice for the veterans. The first clinic starts on April 12th at 6:00PM. The Thursday field is most likely changing this year (the city overbooked the old Blue Mountain fields) – but stay tuned as to the new location, still in Maple Ridge. Part 2 of the Clinic Series will go on Sunday, April 15th at 6:00PM at Thomas Haney SS – while Part 3 will run on Thursday, April 19th….and every Thursday thereafter.
League Games
Starting on Sunday, April 22nd (6PM at Thomas Haney) our season begins! The common format will be: warm-up, play lots of Ulti, have a post-game drink while making up a team cheer for the other team. The team rosters on the site are not the 2007 teams…that will be changed after registration. Spirited Players of the Game will be closely tracked this year, posted on the website, and given weekly prizes – I hope it is obvious that Spirit is the backbone of our league!!

Spirit of the Game
Maple Ridge Ultimate has consistently received praise for our high level of competitiveness and intoxicating Spirit! But like any World Class League, we must continue to build on that reputation. More emphasis this year will be put on the Most Spirited Players in each game and the cheer that occurs after the games. Having a cold drink at the field while your team writes up a song/cheer for the other team will be a regular routine. Then off to Red Robin for a burger, beer, prizes and good company!

Hat Tournament
Saturday, June 16th at Cliff Falls Park – our 2nd annual tournament! Building on the momentum of last year’s HUGE success, this tournament is more about the socializing, eating and drinking than the game. Be ready for lots of Ultimate, laughs, and good friends! See Kevin R. recreate the patented “Shotgun a Beer Point”.
Disc Golf
If any of you have not been to the Thornhill Disc Golf course yet, you have got to make the trip! Many of us play every Saturday and Sunday (and as the days get longer – during the week) and would love to have a “newbie” out to learn the course. It’s free, it’s fun, bring a regular disc or borrow a golf disc, and throw a few “travelers” in the cooler! There is a link in the forum on our site that can be used to nail down dates/times for future games.
And Finally – Spread the Word!
Bring out a friend or family member that has never even heard of Ultimate! Last year, our league was made up of 40% brand new players – and during the year, the improvement was simply amazing! The Thursday Clinics and Sunday games will get any player familiar with the game, improve their physical fitness, and introduce them to a great bunch of people. Here in Maple Ridge, it’s not Ultimate…..it’s CULTIMATE!

Good day fellow Ultimate players! After that beautiful, warm, sunny Saturday we had last weekend - it's time to start thinking about Ulti this season in Maple Ridge! Get back in shape, see some old friends, and start chasing that piece of plastic all over the field. Here are some important details (in no particular order):
Registration: Saturday, March 31st 1:00PM-4:00PM at Red Robin. (sign up, get a drink, and pick up a disc!)
Games will again be Sunday afternoon/nights (Starting April 22nd) and Practices/Clinics will be Thursdays (Starting April 12th).
We are having a "Blanket Maple Ridge With Ultimate Posters" party at Red Robin on Sunday, February 25th at 5:00PM. Everyone is welcome to stop by for a drink and burger and help contribute to getting the Ultimate Word out to those who might want to check out this amazing sport!
Similar to last year, the league focuses on fun, Spirit, fitness, and socializing with friends...bring out a buddy cause our clinics are going to start from scratch - NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!
More info to be sent out in a newsletter after our Feb. 25th meeting....but there's a start!

 Coached by one of the country's top coaches (in his own mind) Dan Macmaster - Traditional Learning Academy played some outstanding Ultimate at the Provincial Championships this past weekend! Showing skills and Spirit that can only be described as "Out of this World", TLA finishes their season with a solid 20-14 record!! Coach Macmaster can now focus on more important things like having a life again......

 The Team Rosters have been changed.
Why?
There were a few "No Shows" on one team that made it difficult for them to field a team each Sunday.
The skills of the new players are far beyond anything we expected and the league needed to be balanced from the start.
2 Teams had a bunch of ladies...2 teams did not.
So as of Sunday June 11th, we will be OFFICIALLY starting the season with our new teams! Records will be displayed on the website...Spirited players of each game will be kept as well.

Round 1 of registration at Red Robin was a real success. We signed up alot of new players, and best of all, the gender ratio is solid for both females and males. We have been able to secure enough field space to bring in more players. Email me if you are interested. The games are Sunday nights on some beautiful fields in Maple Ridge. League Registration will take place on Saturday, March 11th at Red Robin (227th and Lougheed) from 1PM-4PM.
Registration fee is $60.
You can register as an individual or link yourself up with friends on the same team.
Registration includes Regular Season Games (every Sunday night), pickup matches/skills clinics every Thursday night, Disc Golf Tournaments, June Hat Tournament, and other Social Outings.
First 60 players to fill out a waiver and pay $60 will have a spot in the league. After that, I will see if the numbers warrent another 2 teams or not. So get there early!!!!
